Hartpury on a high as students celebrate A-level results rise

More Hartpury A-level students than ever are ready to take the next step towards their dream career following another year of outstanding results at the College.

The A-level pass rate rose again, to 98.8%, while most students have gained places at their first choice universities where they will study a wide range of subjects. Overall, the number of students achieving grades from A* - C was also up significantly from last year.

James Thomas, who was the only A-level student to combine his studies with being a part of the golf academy, is going on to read maths at Warwick University after gaining four A* grades in maths, further maths, business and physics.

Fellow student Nick Gallagher, who already has an offer from Cambridge but is considering moving stateside to study at the likes of Harvard or Stanford, also achieved four A* grades in maths, biology, chemistry and physics.

Claire Whitworth, Assistant Principal for Further Education at Hartpury, said: “We’re delighted to see that our results are on the rise again; it’s testament to the hard work that all of our A-level staff and students continue to put in on a daily basis. It’s brilliant to see a large number of students heading off to their first choice universities or into the world of work.”

Steffan Gibbon, who was part of the junior rugby team during his time at the college, will be going to Deloitte to complete an apprenticeship after achieving the results he needed. He said: “I’m really pleased that I got in and it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my teachers here at Hartpury. I want to thank them for all their support.”

Other notable achievers included Megan Taylor (A, A, B) and Charlotte Powell (A*, A*, B) as well as Charlotte Smith, part of Hartpury’s unique pre-veterinary programme, who achieved A, B, B in biology, English Language and chemistry and will go on to read Veterinary Medicine at University of Liverpool.

Charlotte Powell, an up and coming dressage rider, said: “I had so much fun at Hartpury and I’m absolutely delighted with my results. It felt like being part of a family here and I’m going to miss it. But I’m excited for what the future holds.”
