Dual CMI qualification for RAU business graduates

Students studying a business degree in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) at the Royal Agricultural University (RAU) will now receive a dual qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the only accredited professional body for management and leadership and to award Chartered Manager status.

Upon graduation, undergraduate business management students will collect their BSc Honours degrees and also be awarded the Level 6 Certificate in Management and Leadership from the CMI, which is indicative of academic standards for undergraduate programmes recognised by them. 

They will be admitted as a member of the CMI at the Associate level and be eligible to use the abbreviation ACMI. They can then work towards becoming chartered managers within three to five years of graduating, and an upgrade to Member, MCMI or Fellow, FCMI. This will apply to all SBE students graduating from July 2015 onwards.

Professor Kanes Rajah, Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, said: “This is a watershed moment for the students and graduates of the SBE. It is also confirmation that we are producing graduates who are highly employable. Our graduates are enterprising and entrepreneurial and we are also preparing them well for managerial and senior leadership roles. This is what the RAU experience is about.”

The CMI qualification is widely recognised by employers; 75% suggest that those with professional qualification are better prepared for the workplace.

The CMI include membership for the duration of the degree course to support learning; students will be registered with the CMI from their first year of study at the RAU. The CMI’s Management Direct portal provides access to globally renowned content such as Harvard & McKinsey Business Journals, as well as CMI generated content which is unavailable anywhere else. Many universities refer to the quality of their resource as outstanding.

The CMI are currently engaged with around 80 business schools across the UK, these include the likes of Henley Business School, Leicester Business School, Nottingham Business School, Bristol Business School, Manchester Business School, Ulster Business School and Glasgow School for Business and Society.
