Enterprise Advisers and local schools partner to develop career strategies
Through Local Enterprise Partnerships across the country, Enterprise Advisers will be part of a national network supporting schools to create powerful and lasting connections with the business community.
8 September 2016
Advisers will play a key strategic role in helping schools leaders to develop effective plans that link their education and careers provision to the needs of business and the economy; ensuring we are educating young people fit for the 21st century economy. This voluntary role will be rewarding in its own right, but Advisors will also benefit from local training and opportunities to gain recognition and training at a national level through the Careers & Enterprise Company.
Ruth Kinsella is an Account Director at Amey and has pledged her time to work as an Enterprise Adviser with Millbrook Academy, saying:
“The opportunity to become an Enterprise Advisor was brought to me by our Communications & Engagement Manager, who is a GL Ambassador. When I looked further into this I found that it was an initiative that I was really keen to support. Having worked on and run a number of highways contracts around the country, I have always enjoyed working with and encouraging young people who join our business and I also understand the challenges we have in recruiting young people with the right skills.
As a business we firmly believe that having the keenness and willingness to work is equally as important as having the right qualifications; we can work on the qualifications and support people through college, but we can’t always work quite so successfully on the willingness to be at work and the enthusiasm to progress.
Becoming an Enterprise Adviser gives me the opportunity to influence the skills development of young people, help them to understand business expectations and to use our own Apprentices, Management Graduates and younger employees to encourage and motivate in the school environment.
We have lots of exciting projects planned and I am really looking forward to working with Millbrook Academy and supporting them during my year as an Enterprise Adviser.”
An Enterprise Adviser will be able to communicate at a senior level in schools and able to commit on average half a day per month. If you are interested in becoming an Enterprise Adviser and helping Gloucestershire grow as a county, please contact Katherine Johnson: katherine.johnson@gfutures.co.uk.
