Gloucestershire Airport seeks high flyers
Gloucestershire Airport and aviation charity fly2help are looking for youngsters considering a career in aviation for their Aim High scholarship programme to be held at the Airport during Half Term, 15-19th February.
13 January 2016
The 10 lucky students will be given a behind-the-scenes insight into the county’s airport, including a 15-minute training flight in a light aircraft, combined with visits to aerospace giants such as Rolls-Royce, Airbus based in Bristol, GE Aviation at Cheltenham and Global ATS, the air traffic control college, which is based at Staverton.
Fly2help CEO Alison Pavier said: "Our Aim High programme aims to encourage young people into the aviation sector, and there'll be strong competition for the coveted places. Last year's scholars were an inspiring and impressive group of young people and we were honoured to be able to help them towards a career in aviation. I can't wait to meet this year's scholars."
Airport Operations Director, Darren Lewington, said: "Gloucestershire Airport has chosen fly2help as our charity to support and, with such a diverse range of activities on site and in the county, we're well placed show these students what's on offer."
"From the earliest days of flight, on display at our Jet Age Museum, right up to the cutting edge of modern engineering and training, I'm sure they'll have an enjoyable week. Aerospace is the largest industry sector in our region and is a key economic driver. It's vital that we bring 'new blood' into the industry."
Applications are accepted from students aged 14 to 18 and forms are available from the fly2help website. They must be submitted by 15th January and interviews will be held at Gloucestershire Airport on Saturday 23rd January.
