Gloucestershire Businesses set sights on Indonesia

A group of eight Gloucestershire organisations are preparing to visit to Indonesia this month, with help from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).

The visit, taking place from 24 to 28 February, will be led by UKTI International Trade Adviser Patrick Bos and Richard Graham, MP for Gloucester and the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Indonesia. It will provide participating businesses with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience and insight into one of world’s fastest growing economies.

With a population of over 230 million, Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world and has a growing affluent and aspirational middle-class of around 45 million. Considered one of UKTI’s high growth markets, many opportunities exist for UK businesses across a range of sectors in Indonesia, including rail, air, ports, oil and gas, power generation, renewable energies, financial services and life sciences.

To help local businesses seize these opportunities, the UKTI trade mission is designed to assist companies that are either new to this potential export market or businesses with an existing foothold that they wish to develop further. As part of the mission, delegates will have access to tailored market research, attend receptions at the Embassy in Jakarta and have the opportunity to meet with prospective customers and partners.

International Trade Adviser Patrick Bos said:

“This visit is a great opportunity for businesses to research this growing market, make new contacts or appoint a representative or partner. There is a growing need for products, services and investment in this country which offers excellent prospects in a number of sectors.”

Severn Glocon is a Quedgeley-based specialist manufacturer of control valves for the oil and gas and sub-sea industry. Group Sales Director Ron Baker is attending the market visit with UKTI with the view of seeking exposure to senior members of the local oil companies and contractors, including oil and gas company Pertamina. Ron said:

"Indonesia is very important market for us. We first entered the market 20 years ago and we are looking to further develop our presence in Indonesia by establishing high level contacts with the oil companies there.

"Many companies don't use UKTI as much as they should do. What many businesses don't realise is that the UKTI can very often facilitate introductions to the highest level in overseas markets and are fully supported by the UK Government to give assistance and help if required. This is exactly why we are taking part in this market visit."

Cheltenham-based Premiere Products produces a range of sustainable cleaning chemicals and personal care products. Commercial Director Peter Brown is attending the visit with the intention of establishing distribution partnerships with specialist wholesalers and customers. Peter said:

"The Indonesian market offers tremendous potential to build on our existing success in Malaysia. Taking part in UKTI's trade mission provides the perfect opportunity for us to meet potential partners, experience the local culture and showcase our new personal care brand, Freshu, as part of our sustainable product offer.”

Other participating companies include: Renishaw (Wotton under Edge), Spirax Sarco (Cheltenham), Fluid Transfer International (Nailsworth); Green Fuels (Cheltenham); Tudor Rose International (Stroud), University of Gloucestershire, Printsolutions.co.uk (Dorset), Baldwin and Francis (Sheffield), NATS (Cranford).
