Introducing GNCF: Gloucestershire Nature + Climate Fund
GFirst LEP has partnered with Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership to deliver new project.
24 November 2022
The Gloucestershire Nature + Climate Fund is an independent, not-for-profit broker of biodiversity units and carbon credits, backed by GFirst LEP and the Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership.
From Winter 2023, all new developments in England are required to demonstrate a 10% increase in biodiversity on, or near, the site (Environment Act, 2021). Where ‘biodiversity net gain’ cannot be made on site, off-site credits are required.
The Gloucestershire Nature + Climate Fund (GNCF) is looking for landowners who can offer nature restoration and habitat creation on their land which can be sold as ‘biodiversity net gain’ (BNG) units. The rewards of entering the BNG market are potentially very large with market prices of ~£22k per BNG unit and around 1 to 9 units per hectare. Landowners can sell the biodiversity uplift while retaining land ownership. The biodiversity uplift must be secured for 30 years and GNCF is looking for a minimum of 7ha per landowner.
