Young designers kick-start their creative futures

Young people are being given the opportunity to explore possible careers in creative industries through new Creative Pathways for Creative Futures event.

The Creative Pathways for Creative Futures event is taking place at the Subscription Rooms in Stroud on Friday 11th March from 10am – 4pm. Young people, arts and cultural organisations and educational institutions will come together to explore routes into the creative industries, with the aim of providing young people with better opportunities to get involved in the creative sector.

Rosa Harris Edmonds, Creative intern, Stroud Valley Arts, said, “My time as a creative intern has been so valuable. I have learnt so much and it’s been a great leap pad into this working environment. As part of the creative intern programme, we have co-designed and planned the Creative Pathways for Creative Futures conference which will help other people to have a similar experience to mine."

The event links with Arts Council England’s national Cultural Education Challenge, which launched in October last year, and aims to bring the arts and cultural sector, educational establishments and local authorities together to enhance the overall cultural offer for young people. Through addressing the challenge, the sector can ensure a consistent, high quality arts and cultural education for young people. The event will provide young people from the area with a voice giving them a chance to explain what a cultural education means to them, and the part it plays in their lives and in their futures.

Young people interested in exploring a career in the arts and culture sector and organisations committed to developing their cultural offer to support young people in this way can book on to this free event. For more information or to book on to the event, please click here

Kate Rowlands, Bridge Consultant for RIO, said, “The Creative Pathways for Creative Futures event provides a chance for young people, arts and cultural organisations and educational institutions to come together to explore and create opportunities for the next generation of creative talent.

“The fact that creative interns and apprentices from the Create Gloucestershire consortium are co-designing the event is testament to the talent of future workforce within the region.”

Louise Bardgett, Projects and Events Coordinator at Create Gloucestershire, said, "Create Gloucestershire is delighted to be supporting the Creative Pathways for Creative Futures event and to give creative interns and apprentices involved in the Creative Employment Programme a voice.”
